OUR HISTORY

The O’Shea family have been pulling beers, serving meals, sharing laughs and special moments with its patrons now for 50 years. In fact, they’ve been serving patrons for three generations.

The O’Shea legacy began in 1973, when two generations of the O’Shea family took over lease of the Royal Hotel. Michael and Coral O’Shea, together with Michael’s parents, Mick (Snr) and Thelva O’Shea, secured the Hotel lease in August 1973. Mick (Snr) and Thelva O’Shea retired from the Hotel in 1984, making way for Michael and Coral to lease the Hotel, later purchasing it in 1987.

A true Hotel family, Michael and Coral raised their four children Amanda, Michael, Michelle & Stephen at the Hotel, becoming proudly entrenched in the family business. Unfortunately, 2001 was a very sad year for the O’Shea family, with the sudden passing of Michael O’Shea.

In his honour, the O’Shea family continue to build the family business, achieving many industry accolades over the years. In September 2012, Coral O’Shea was awarded Hotelier of the Year at the QHA Awards for Excellence, and in so doing, was the first female to receive this coveted award.

Today, thanks to the hard work of Michael and Coral O’Shea, the family tradition continues with the third generation of the O’Shea Family, Mick O’Shea taking over the reins of the Hotel in 2023.

The next pages of history are yet to be written, but you can rest assured that there’s every chance you’ll find an O’Shea behind the bar.
